BYD has updated its Yuan UP small electric SUV with a new Feixing Edition, bringing a longer-range variant that pushes the entry point for 500km-plus range below 80,000 yuan (about $11,300). The refreshed model, which has been the best-selling small BEV (battery-electric) SUV in China for two years, starts at a limited-time price of 69,800 yuan (about $9,800) after trade-in, according to NetEase Auto.
The headline change is a new 501km CLTC range version, powered by a 51.13kWh Blade battery. For context, CLTC figures tend to be roughly 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP, so the equivalent WLTP range is estimated at around 400-425km. The Feixing Edition also offers 301km and 401km CLTC variants, giving buyers three range choices to match commuting or occasional long-distance needs.
Design and cabin upgrades
Visually, the Feixing Edition adds two youthful paint options - Mengdong Yellow and Oxygen Blue - and rides on new 17-inch star-blade wheels. The exterior keeps the circular LED light clusters and semi-hidden door handles, while the cabin gains a two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel and a shift-by-wire stalk, freeing up console space. A 12.8-inch central touchscreen runs BYD's DiLink 100 smart cockpit, supporting four-zone voice control and seamless phone-to-car app integration.
The Yuan UP measures 4310mm long, 1830mm wide and 1675mm tall, with a 2620mm wheelbase. Despite its compact footprint, the rear seats offer adequate space for daily family use, and the 4/6 split-folding rear bench expands boot capacity to 1320 litres. Higher trims add ventilated and heated front seats, a panoramic sunroof and NFC key access - features typically found in more expensive models.
ADAS and value proposition
A key upgrade is the inclusion of BYD's God's Eye C (Tian Shen Zhi Yan C) driver assistance system, which enables highway pilot functions such as adaptive cruise, automatic lane changes and ramp entry/exit. The system also includes all-scenario smart parking that can handle narrow and unmarked spaces, with BYD offering coverage for parking-related accident losses - a rarity at this price point.
NetEase Auto notes that, as a small SUV starting around 60,000-70,000 yuan, the Yuan UP still has typical segment weaknesses in ride comfort and highway noise insulation. It is best suited for city commuters rather than frequent highway drivers.
Since its launch, the Yuan UP has accumulated over 720,000 global users and maintains monthly sales above 60,000 units, according to the report. The Feixing Edition aims to address the previous trade-off between price and range in the 60,000-100,000 yuan segment, though buyers will need to weigh whether the 501km version's extra cost - roughly 10,000 yuan more than the base - is worth it.
