BYD has refreshed its Yuan UP small electric SUV lineup with the launch of the 2027 'Feichi' (Flying Wing) edition, adding a new long-range variant that offers up to 501 km of CLTC range. The model, which went on sale on September 17, is positioned as a compact pure-electric SUV and now comes in three range options: 301 km, 401 km, and the new 501 km version. After a 'super trade-in subsidy', the starting price is 69,800 yuan (about $9,800), according to Chinese outlet 电动邦 (EVbang).
New range options and pricing
The 2027 Yuan UP Feichi edition is available in three battery configurations to suit different needs. The entry-level 301 km version is aimed at daily commuters, with a price point around 60,000 yuan. The mid-tier 401 km variant, priced around 70,000 yuan, balances commuting and weekend trips. The flagship 501 km version, which starts at around 80,000 yuan, comes with a 51.13 kWh blade battery, allowing for cross-city travel without frequent charging. This annual update is designed to cover 'commuting, family use, and long-distance travel' scenarios.
All prices are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives. The 501 km CLTC figure is roughly 15-20% more optimistic than the WLTP standard, so an equivalent WLTP range would be approximately 400-425 km (est.).
Design and features
The 2027 model introduces two new exterior colors, 'Mengdong Yellow' and 'Oxygen Blue', along with new 17-inch low-drag aluminum wheels. The front features BYD's 'Dragon Crystal' LED headlights, while the rear uses a full-width LED light bar. Inside, the cabin gets a new two-spoke leather steering wheel, a column-mounted gear shifter, a 50W wireless phone charger, and a 12.8-inch central touchscreen.
The infotainment system runs on the upgraded DiLink 100, supporting four-zone voice control and 'see-and-say' functionality. Front seats are heated and ventilated, and the car supports smartphone connectivity for navigation and media. The Yuan UP measures 4,310 mm in length, 1,830 mm in width, and 1,675 mm in height, with a 2,620 mm wheelbase. The rear seats fold in a 40:60 split, expanding trunk space to 1,320 liters.
For driver assistance, the Yuan UP Feichi edition is equipped with BYD's 'God's Eye C' system, which includes highway navigation assist (HNOA) with adaptive cruise, lane changing, and ramp handling. The system also supports fully automated parking, including remote parking and parking in tight or unmarked spaces. BYD offers a safety guarantee for all 'God's Eye' vehicles in parking scenarios, without affecting next-year insurance premiums.
Since its launch in 2024, the Yuan UP has been the best-selling small electric SUV in China for two consecutive years, with over 720,000 global users and monthly sales exceeding 60,000 units. The new Feichi edition aims to fill the gap in the 60,000-90,000 yuan price bracket, offering both long range and high equipment levels.
