BYD's new Tang EV flagship SUV has been given a thorough hands-on review by Chinese automotive outlet Autohome, offering a detailed look at the model's design, interior, and practicality. The review highlights the vehicle's imposing size, with a body length approaching 5.3 meters, positioning it as a large three-row SUV in BYD's Dynasty series lineup.
The exterior follows BYD's classic Dynasty design language, featuring a closed grille and a full-width light bar, giving it a composed and understated look suitable for business, family, or daily use. The Tang EV offers five single-tone body colors, plus a two-tone version priced at 5,000 yuan (about $700) as a launch option, which is free on the top-spec Tang Shengshi trim.
Luxurious interior and spacious cabin
Inside, the Tang EV impresses with Nappa leather upholstery on the dashboard, door panels, and seats, complemented by wood trim and metallic accents. The cabin features the DiLink 150 infotainment system, which Autohome describes as smooth and intuitive. The first two rows of seats are fully equipped with power adjustment, ventilation, heating, and massage functions, while the third row offers power adjustment and heating. Additional amenities include a refrigerated/frozen compartment, rear entertainment screens, power-closing doors, and acoustic glass throughout.
Space is a key strength, with a 2+2+3 seating layout. A 180cm-tall reviewer found ample headroom in the front (two fists) and generous legroom in the second row, which features independent captain's chairs with adjustable backrests and a climate control panel. The third row, while not spacious, was deemed acceptable for short to medium trips when the second row is adjusted to leave one fist of legroom.
Practical storage and a huge front trunk
Storage is well thought out, with a small refrigerator in the center console, a large under-console area, and door pockets that can hold multiple bottles. The second row includes a refrigerator that fits six 596ml bottles, plus cup holders and phone slots. The third row has basic cup holders and phone storage.
In a luggage test, the Tang EV's boot accommodated four 20-inch carry-on suitcases in its standard seven-seat configuration, expanding to 15 with the third row folded. The front trunk, at 252 liters, swallowed three additional suitcases with room to spare.
Autohome's review focuses on the vehicle's design and practicality, but does not provide powertrain specifications or range figures. The Tang EV is expected to be a key player in BYD's flagship SUV lineup, competing in the large electric SUV segment in China.
