BYD launches third-gen Qin Plus DM-i from 76,900 yuan

BYD's third-generation Qin Plus DM-i goes on sale in China with a limited-time starting price of 76,900 yuan (about $10,800), offering up to 220 km of electric range and a combined range of over 2,290 km.

BYD has launched the third-generation Qin Plus DM-i in China, with a limited-time starting price of 76,900 yuan (about $10,800) for the entry-level model. The new compact sedan is available in three trim levels, priced between 76,900 and 97,900 yuan (approximately $13,800), according to Chinese outlet 电动邦 (Dian Dong Bang). The price is a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives.

The Qin Plus DM-i is a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) that combines a gasoline engine with an electric motor. It offers two battery options, providing 140 km or 220 km of pure electric range under the CLTC standard. That 220 km figure is roughly 15-20% more optimistic than the WLTP equivalent, so an estimated WLTP range would be around 176-187 km. The car's total driving range, with a full tank and a full battery, exceeds 2,290 km.

BYD says the new model is larger than its predecessor, with dimensions of 4,840 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width, and 1,498 mm in height, and a wheelbase of 2,800 mm. The company claims the interior space rivals that of mid-size sedans. The front seats offer ventilation and heating, the rear seat cushion has been extended by 21 mm, and the trunk volume is 570 liters. There are 33 storage compartments throughout the cabin.

Design and technology upgrades

The exterior adopts a new "wind-breaking" front face, replacing the previous large grille with a shark-nose design. The car comes with 17-inch sport wheels and offers nine paint colors, including new shades like Island Blue and Titanium Gray. Inside, the cabin features a 12.8-inch central touchscreen, an 8.8-inch semi-embedded digital instrument cluster, and a two-spoke leather steering wheel, with two interior color options.

For driver assistance, the Qin Plus DM-i can be equipped with BYD's "God's Eye B" system, which includes a lidar version and the "God's Eye 5.0" package. These systems support features like adaptive cruise control, lane keeping, and automated parking, covering scenarios such as city congestion, highways, and narrow roads. BYD has also committed to a one-year safety guarantee for urban navigation assist, a feature that provides city-level advanced driver assistance.

The car runs on BYD's DiLink 150 smart cockpit system, which has a redesigned user interface. It also includes a high-speed tire blowout stabilization system, a blade battery, and a range of active and passive safety features. The cabin is designed for low noise levels, and a driver monitoring system is included.

Market position and sales record

The Qin Plus has been the best-selling compact sedan in China for three consecutive years, and BYD says the Qin family has accumulated over 2.9 million users as of September 2026. The third-generation model aims to strengthen that position with improved fuel efficiency, claiming a fuel consumption of just 2.58 liters per 100 km when the battery is depleted.

The launch comes as BYD continues to push aggressive pricing in China's competitive PHEV market. The new Qin Plus DM-i is positioned as a family car that can be used as an electric vehicle for daily commuting and as a hybrid for long trips, according to the company.
