BYD has launched the new Han EV, a flagship large electric sedan under its Dynasty series, with prices starting at 235,900 yuan (about $33,200) and rising to 275,900 yuan (about $38,900) for the top trim. According to NetEase Auto, the model is offered in three variants: two rear-wheel-drive (RWD) and one all-wheel-drive (AWD). The Han EV measures over 5.2 meters in length and features a 1008 km CLTC range on the longest-range version, making it one of the few production EVs to break the 1,000 km barrier.
Standard equipment and design
The Han EV comes with a suite of standard features across all trims, including rear-wheel steering, YunNian-A dual-chamber air suspension, the second-generation blade battery, flash charging capability, and a LiDAR-based driver assistance system. The car's exterior follows BYD's 'Dragon Face' design language, with a full-width LED light bar that the company claims is the longest in a production vehicle. The LiDAR sensor is mounted on the roof, and the body has a drag coefficient of just 0.197 Cd.
Inside, the cabin features a wraparound layout with a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster and a 17.3-inch 3K central touchscreen. All trims include Nappa leather seats and a suede headliner, with front zero-gravity seats offering ventilation, heating and massage functions. Higher trims add rear seat adjustments, a 7-liter refrigerator, and additional screens including a 12.3-inch passenger display and a 17.3-inch rear entertainment screen.
Performance and charging
The Han EV is powered by a 102.3 kWh second-generation blade battery. The RWD variants produce 370 kW (496 hp) from the rear motor and achieve a CLTC range of 1,008 km (about 7 km WLTP est.), with a 0-100 km/h time of 4.9 seconds. The AWD flagship adds a front motor with 200 kW (268 hp), bringing total output to 570 kW (764 hp) and cutting the 0-100 km/h sprint to 3.3 seconds, with a top speed of 270 km/h. The CLTC range for the AWD version is 880 km.
BYD says the flash charging technology can take the battery from 10% to 70% in just 5 minutes, and to 97% in 9 minutes. In extremely cold conditions, the charging time increases by only 3 minutes. The car's chassis uses a front double-wishbone and rear five-link suspension setup, with rear-wheel steering reducing the turning radius to 4.95 meters, which should help in tight parking and U-turn scenarios.
The Han EV is equipped with BYD's 'God's Eye' B driver assistance system, which includes one LiDAR sensor, 11 cameras and 12 ultrasonic radars. It supports urban navigation, highway navigation, adaptive cruise control and various parking assistance functions.
With the Han EV, BYD is moving beyond the price war that has characterized China's EV market, focusing instead on quality and long-term ownership experience. The model's combination of long range, fast charging and advanced chassis technology positions it as a strong competitor in the large electric sedan segment, according to NetEase Auto.
