Boeing has presented a final contract proposal to its engineers' union, SPEEA, offering an immediate 10% salary increase and guaranteed annual raises of at least 4% for the next four years, according to IThome.
Key terms of the offer
The proposal, announced on Boeing's website on September 11, guarantees a 10% pay raise for SPEEA members once ratified. In addition, the compensation pool will increase by 6% annually in 2028, 2029, and 2030, with a guaranteed minimum annual raise of 4%. All funds in the compensation pool must be used for SPEEA members each year.
This offer is more generous than the previous one, which was overwhelmingly rejected by SPEEA members in a vote on August 21. If approved, approximately 17,000 professional and technical employees would receive the 10% raise on October 16, followed by 4% raises plus performance-based increases from 2027 through 2030.
Boeing Vice President and Chief Engineer of Production Engineering Ben Nimmergut said in a statement: "Our final contract offer covers the priorities identified by employees and the SPEEA negotiating team, including immediate pay raises and an expanded, guaranteed compensation pool."
Union response and potential strike
The union said the latest proposal also includes adjustments to remote work policies and overtime restrictions for professional unit members. The current contract expires on October 6. If no agreement is reached by then, SPEEA members could go on strike.
This development comes amid broader labor tensions in the aerospace industry, with Boeing facing pressure to retain skilled engineers while managing cost pressures. The outcome of the vote will be closely watched by industry observers, as it could set a precedent for other aerospace unions.
