Beijing-Xiong'an express rail line starts full-line trial runs at 200 km/h

The Jingxiong express line, China's first 200 km/h commuter-style rail link, began full-line trial operations on September 12, connecting Xiong'an New Area with Beijing's Daxing airport and metro network.

According to IThome, the Jingxiong (Beijing-Xiong'an) express line officially started full-line trial operations on September 12. The 86-kilometer route, which runs from Xiong'an Intercity Station through three cities across Hebei and Beijing, is China's first rail express line designed for a top speed of 200 km/h (124 mph) with a commuter-style, high-frequency operating model.

The trial marks a key step toward integrating the line with Beijing's Daxing Airport metro line. Once fully connected, passengers from Xiong'an New Area will be able to travel directly to Caoxi station in Beijing and then access the entire Beijing subway network using a single ticket or code, enabling seamless cross-region transfers.

Two-phase trial plan

The full-line trial, covering the section from Xiong'an Intercity Station to Caoxi, will proceed in two phases. The first phase focuses on testing the interoperability of vehicle, signaling, and communication systems, while also conducting cross-line coordination and emergency response drills for operating staff. The second phase enters a simulated timetable operation, verifying key metrics such as train punctuality and schedule adherence, in preparation for a safety assessment before initial commercial service.

The line combines the advantages of long-distance rail speed with the high-density, rapid-acceleration characteristics of urban transit, allowing trains to start and stop quickly and board passengers on demand. This design supports the strategic goal of easing non-capital functions from Beijing, providing stable and efficient commuting options for relocated organizations and personnel.

The Jingxiong line is a landmark project of the Beijing-Xiong'an one-hour metropolitan circle and is expected to eventually extend to Lize station once that station opens, further expanding its reach within Beijing.
