Avatr, the premium electric-vehicle brand backed by Changan and Huawei, unveiled its first flagship SUV at the 2026 Paris motor show on October 11. The T09, a large six-seat model co-developed with Huawei's Qiankun division, is scheduled to launch in China before the end of the year, according to NetEase Auto.
Design and dimensions
The T09 marks a departure from Avatr's previous streamlined design language, adopting a more upright, substantial silhouette aimed at the large six-seat SUV segment. The front features a matrix-textured closed grille, which the company calls the "Shangding Longzu" design, flanked by split headlights with nearly 1,000 LED units and a new double-layer diamond-cut finish. A chrome strip spans the lower front bumper, while the rear is simpler, with a slim full-width light bar and a clean tailgate.
The SUV measures 5,285 mm long, 2,025 mm wide and 1,810 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,150 mm. Short overhangs and a flat roofline support a 2+2+2 seating layout, while semi-concealed door handles and dense multi-spoke wheels complete the exterior.
Powertrain and intelligence
Power comes from a new hybrid system combining a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine with three electric motors, delivering a combined output exceeding 1,000 hp. The system can switch between range-extender, plug-in hybrid and pure-electric modes depending on driving conditions. The T09 is equipped with a 71.24 kWh CATL Shenxing Super Range-Extender battery, offering a CLTC pure-electric range of over 400 km. Note that CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP, so the equivalent WLTP range would be around 320-340 km (est.).
The T09 integrates Huawei's Qiankun ADS 5 driver-assistance system, a new Taixing chassis control technology and Huawei's Qiankun XMC digital chassis. The chassis features distributed electric drive, closed dual-chamber air suspension, rear-wheel steering and crab-walk mode, enabling a turning radius of about 4 metres despite the vehicle's length. The ADS 5 system uses four lidar units and is deeply integrated with the chassis controls to deliver smooth, stable assisted driving across more scenarios, Avatr says.
Avatr positions the T09 as the opening model of a new high-end product line, filling a gap in its line-up for large six-seat SUVs. The company said the model represents the culmination of its technology and premium strategy, though no pricing has been announced yet.
