Avatr denies chairman reshuffle rumors, says Wang Hui stays as chairman while overseeing some overseas business

Avatr Technology has responded to reports that its chairman Wang Hui was being moved to oversee Changan's overseas operations, confirming he remains chairman while taking on some overseas responsibilities. The company is reportedly preparing a new round of senior management adjustments.

Avatr Technology, the premium electric-vehicle brand backed by Changan Automobile, has responded to rumors of a leadership reshuffle, confirming that Wang Hui remains chairman of the company while taking on some overseas responsibilities. According to IThome (IThome), Avatr told Chinese financial outlet National Business Daily on September 11 that "Wang Hui is still chairman of Avatr Technology and executive vice president of Changan Automobile, and he is in charge of part of the overseas business."

The clarification came after reports from Leiphone on the same day suggested that Wang had been reassigned to lead Changan's overseas operations, with his focus shifting to Southeast Asia and Central and South America. While Wang's internal title at Avatr remains unchanged, his attention has reportedly moved to Changan's international expansion.

IPO progress and Huawei partnership

Wang took over as Avatr chairman about a year ago with the core mission of pushing the company toward an initial public offering (IPO). However, according to IThome, Avatr's IPO progress has not been smooth. Wang is also described as one of the earliest and most steadfast executives within the Changan system to promote cooperation with Huawei, the Chinese tech giant that supplies intelligent driving and cockpit solutions to several automakers.

Meanwhile, Chen Zhuo, currently vice president of Changan and president of Avatr, is expected to further expand his management scope over Avatr-related business, the reports said. Chen was officially appointed vice president of Changan on June 15, alongside Di Zhirui, who now heads Changan's Qiyuan brand. Chen is seen as a rising star within Changan's leadership pipeline.

What it means for Avatr

The leadership adjustments come at a critical time for Avatr, which competes in China's crowded premium EV segment. The brand has been expanding its lineup, with plans for the Avatr 07L SUV to launch in July and a luxury flagship SUV later this year, according to earlier statements from Wang. The company's partnership with Huawei is central to its product strategy, and any leadership changes could influence the pace of its IPO and overseas expansion.

Avatr's response appears aimed at reassuring the market that Wang remains in charge, even as his role expands to include overseas duties. The company is positioning itself for growth both at home and abroad, with Changan's global ambitions likely to play a larger role in Avatr's future direction.
