Avatr 07L First Drive: 968 hp Tri-Motor SUV Gains Family-Friendly Styling

Avatr's new 07L, a longer, family-oriented version of the 07 SUV, packs a tri-motor setup with over 900 hp (968 hp) and introduces a new HUAWEI SOUND audio system, while dropping some rear-seat features.

Avatr has unveiled the 07L, a longer, family-focused version of its 07 SUV, and it comes with a serious punch: the top Ultra trim packs three electric motors with a combined output exceeding 900 hp (968 hp). According to Autohome, which conducted a first drive, the 07L retains the brand's familiar design language but adds practical touches for families, such as a longer rear door and a more upright roofline.

Design and Dimensions

The 07L measures 4,910 mm long, 1,980 mm wide, and 1,650 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 2,990 mm. Compared with the standard 07, the rear doors are longer, the rear quarter windows are larger, and the luggage area is extended. The roofline is flatter, giving the side profile a more substantial, family-SUV look. The front features a low-key design despite the immense power, with an active grille and a semi-reclined radiator layout that allows for a larger cooling surface without compromising the low nose.

At the rear, the 07L swaps the 07's split taillights for a full-width light bar, and the bumper uses more body-colored trim for a heavier, more stable appearance. The test car rode on 21-inch wheels with red Brembo four-piston calipers and Continental EcoContact 7 tires (265/45 R21), which Autohome noted are more comfort-oriented than performance-focused—a curious choice for a car with this much power.

Interior and Features

Inside, the 07L follows Avatr's familiar layout with soft-touch materials throughout. The cabin features a 35.4-inch 4K panoramic display and a 15.6-inch floating central touchscreen. The steering wheel retains Avatr's rectangular design, now with shortcut buttons for the voice assistant and a one-touch performance mode. The 6.7-inch electronic side-mirror displays are positioned further forward than in some rivals, which Autohome said can be slightly obscured by the central screen for low-seating drivers.

The audio system has switched from Meridian to HUAWEI SOUND. The standard setup is a 960W, 16-speaker system, while a 2,080W, 25-speaker version with 7.1.4 surround sound is a 10,000 yuan (about $1,400) option, though currently free for Max+ and Ultra trims. The front seats offer ventilation, heating, and massage, with a zero-gravity passenger seat available as a limited-time free upgrade—but notably, the driver's seat does not get this feature, a downgrade from the standard 07 which offered dual zero-gravity seats.

Rear-seat passengers get softer cushions and a wide range of recline, but the seat base offers limited thigh support due to a high floor. The rear control panel has moved from the center armrest to below the air vents, making it easier to reach when three people sit in the back. However, the 07L drops the rear massage function that was available on the top 07 trim.

The 07L also features a "reclining lounge" rear seat as a key selling point, emphasizing its focus on relaxation. Autohome suggested that adding a rear entertainment screen or a small table would complete the experience.

Pricing for the Avatr 07L has not been announced, but the 07 starts at around 219,900 yuan (about $31,000) in China. The 07L is expected to be positioned similarly, with the Ultra trim likely commanding a premium.
