Xpeng's new MONA L03 electric SUV is turning heads even before its official launch. During a recent test drive near Beijing, a passerby guessed the car cost 200,000 to 300,000 yuan, but the pre-sale price starts at just 143,800 yuan (about $20,300, Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives). According to Autohome, which conducted the first drive, the eye-catching Aurora Purple paint is available at no extra cost, as is a shade called "Wumei Jiang" (plum sauce).

Design and Cabin
The L03's exterior is clean and modern, with slim headlights that add a touch of sophistication over the earlier MONA M03. The front bumper features piano-black trim and an active grille shutter. At 4,650 mm long, the SUV is compact enough for city driving and parking, yet its 20-inch wheels with Goodyear tires give it a planted stance. The hidden water channels, frameless doors, and split D-pillar are details usually reserved for pricier models. The rear is particularly striking, with a functional air duct and a full-width taillight that makes it instantly recognizable.

Inside, the cabin avoids hard plastics, using soft-touch materials and a velvet headliner. The seats are plush, with purple accents matching the exterior. A voice command to "Xiao P" activates the driver's seat massage, which even includes the cushion. The steering wheel has a unique shape between round and oval, with a thick, leather-wrapped rim. The front passenger gets a zero-gravity seat, though it lacks height adjustment, which may bother taller riders.

Space and Practicality
At 182 cm tall and 84 kg, the reviewer found ample rear legroom—about one to two fists—and one fist of headroom. The rear seats are soft with long cushions, good for long trips. The panoramic glass roof uses double-silver and Low-E coatings to block UV and heat while letting in light. Small touches include 1/4-inch threaded mounts and eight magnetic points for attaching accessories and toys.

However, the rear seats are basic: no heating, ventilation, massage, or separate climate control. Autohome notes this is a deliberate trade-off, as the MONA series targets first-time buyers, focusing budget on looks, tech, and driving feel.
The L03 is expected to go on sale soon, with pricing and full specifications to be announced. It will compete in China's crowded electric SUV market, where Xpeng aims to attract young buyers with a blend of style and value.
