Xiaomi has confirmed that the customer involved in a recent test-drive mishap with its Pengcheng electric vehicle has placed and locked an order for the car, according to IT Home.
The incident occurred on September 8, when a customer test-driving a Xiaomi Pengcheng accidentally pressed the accelerator instead of the brake while yielding to a vehicle ahead at an intersection, causing the car to veer off the road. Xiaomi's official debunking account stated that no one was injured in the incident.
Xu Jieyun, special assistant to Xiaomi's chairman and deputy general manager of the strategic marketing department, confirmed the order placement to Hongxing News on September 11, saying, "Indeed, that's the case."
Order locked despite incident
The confirmation comes after a video of the test-drive error circulated online, drawing attention to the incident. Despite the mishap, the customer proceeded to place and lock an order for the vehicle, signaling continued interest in the model.
Xiaomi, known primarily for its smartphones, has been expanding into the electric vehicle market with its Pengcheng model, which is a battery-electric vehicle (BEV). The company has positioned itself as a new entrant in China's competitive EV market, competing with established players like BYD and Nio.
