Volkswagen Anhui has officially launched the ID. UNYX 09, its first electric fastback sedan, at an event in Hefei on October 24. The new model is offered in three trims—MAX, Full, and Ultra—with guide prices ranging from 179,900 to 249,900 yuan (about $25,300 to $35,200). The top Ultra trim carries a limited-time 'Double 11' price of 169,900 yuan (about $23,900), undercutting the segment's typical entry point. All versions come with lifetime warranty for the vehicle and its high-voltage battery and electric drive system, a rarity for a Volkswagen product in China.
The ID. UNYX 09 marks Volkswagen Anhui's first foray into sedans, following the 06, 07, and 08 SUVs. The model was developed by Volkswagen (China) Technology Co., a R&D center that is the automaker's largest outside Germany. According to Chinese outlet Dian Dong Bang, the car blends German engineering with China's local tech ecosystem, featuring driver assistance co-developed with Xpeng, an AR-HUD from Huawei, and cells from CATL.
Design and technology
The ID. UNYX 09 follows the brand's 'wolf aesthetics' design language, created by a joint Chinese-German team. It measures 5,081 mm in length with a 3,030 mm wheelbase, and features a fastback silhouette, frameless doors, and a full-width rear light bar. A wolf-head emblem is hidden beneath the high-mounted brake light. The lighting system includes DLP digital projection headlights that can project navigation arrows and distance warnings onto the road, plus front and rear interactive light screens made of 422 LEDs that animate for welcome and farewell sequences.
Inside, the cockpit is powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295P chip running VW OS 2.1, with a 3D car model across the desktop. The 85-inch AR-HUD, developed jointly by Huawei, Xpeng, and Volkswagen, offers 12,000 nits brightness for visibility in direct sunlight. The driver assistance system, called Xingyun, uses a VLA end-to-end large model and a Turing AI chip with 750 TOPS of computing power, supported by 26 sensors. It includes standard highway and city NOA (navigation on autopilot), a 'parking space to parking space' feature that remembers up to 10 routes of about 100 km each, and advanced parking assistance for various slot types.
Performance and charging
The chassis uses a front double-wishbone and rear five-link all-aluminum suspension, with optional Vibrac dual-chamber air suspension and DCC dynamic damping control. An AI 'magic carpet' system scans the road 120 meters ahead to adjust damping preemptively. The dual-motor all-wheel-drive version produces 370 kW (about 496 hp) and accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.9 seconds. Brembo four-piston calipers are standard.
The ID. UNYX 09 is Volkswagen's first 5C ultra-fast-charging model in China, built on an 800V silicon carbide platform with CATL cells. It can add about 500 km of range in 10 minutes, charging from 10% to 80% in under 12 minutes. The CLTC range is up to 755 km, which translates to an estimated WLTP range of roughly 600-640 km (CLTC is typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP). Safety standards exceed national requirements by 20%, with seven airbags standard, and the car underwent 3.5 million kilometers of durability testing.
Volkswagen Anhui plans to expand its sales network to 200 outlets by the end of 2026, using a mix of direct sales and agency models. With the ID. UNYX 09, the company completes its product lineup spanning SUVs and sedans, positioning itself as a 'new force' in intelligent electric vehicles. The market response will ultimately depend on delivery quality and long-term reputation, as competition in the pure-electric sedan segment remains intense.
