SAIC Maxus has officially launched the 2027 Maxus 9, a large electric MPV, in China. The vehicle went on sale on September 10, with a guide price starting at 289,900 yuan (about $40,800). A limited-time promotional price brings the entry point down to 239,900 yuan (about $33,800), according to IT之家. These are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.
Design and interior
The 2027 Maxus 9 adopts a fresh design language, featuring a "Star Map" front grille and "Star Array" matrix headlights. The side profile includes dual power sliding doors and 20-inch multi-spoke wheels, while the rear gets "Halberd" taillights and a power tailgate. The MPV measures 5,270 mm long, 2,000 mm wide, and 1,840 mm tall, with a wheelbase of 3,200 mm.
Inside, the cabin uses a two-tone color scheme, with a triple-screen setup on the dashboard and a full-length center console. Standard equipment includes rear privacy glass, sunshades for the second row, a dual-pane panoramic sunroof, foldable tables for the second row, a 220V power outlet, and a 12-speaker JBL audio system.
The second-row seats are zero-gravity units with power adjustment, ventilation, heating, massage, and power leg rests. The aisle between the second-row seats is 231 mm wide, and the third-row seats can slide up to 510 mm. Interior height is 1,276 mm, and shoulder room is 1,570 mm. A 55-liter front trunk adds extra storage.
Powertrain and battery
The 2027 Maxus 9 is a BEV (battery-electric vehicle) powered by SAIC's E2 architecture, featuring a second-generation 8-layer hair-pin winding permanent-magnet synchronous motor with a maximum output of 180 kW (241 hp). It is equipped with a 90 kWh ternary lithium battery from CATL, giving a CLTC range of 560 km. For reference, the WLTP range is estimated at around 450-475 km, as CLTC is typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP.
Charging is supported via DC fast charging, taking 30 minutes to go from 30% to 80%. The vehicle also supports battery swap, using SAIC's self-developed QUICK CLICK reinforced battery quick-change technology, which can complete a swap in as little as 90 seconds.
Safety and range-extender variant
Safety features include seven airbags as standard, an L2-level driver assistance system, Bosch ESP 9.3 electronic stability control, an auto-dimming rearview mirror, and a high-definition 360-degree surround-view camera.
Alongside the electric version, SAIC Maxus also unveiled the "Dana" super range-extender commercial-travel edition. This model retains the existing design but adds a power sliding door, a 17-inch entertainment screen, and an 18-liter refrigerator. It uses a range-extender system (EREV, or range-extender electric vehicle) with a 50 kWh CATL "Tianxing" battery, providing a pure-electric range of 312 km and a combined range of 1,260 km. The CLTC energy consumption is 17.6 kWh per 100 km, with a claimed pure-electric running cost of 0.05 yuan per kilometer (about $0.007).
