MG4 hits 200,000 units built; second 100,000 takes about 4.5 months

SAIC's MG brand has produced its 200,000th MG4 compact electric hatchback at the Nanjing Jiangbei base, with the second 100,000 units rolling off the line in about four and a half months, PCauto reports.

SAIC's MG brand has marked a production milestone for its MG4 compact battery-electric (BEV) hatchback: the 200,000th unit rolled off the line at the company's Nanjing Jiangbei New Area plant in September 2026, according to PCauto. The model reached its first 100,000 units in May 2026, meaning the second 100,000 took roughly four and a half months - a noticeably shorter period than the first batch.

Faster output, lower prices

MG began volume production of the MG4 in August 2025, and the car took about a year to go from zero to 200,000 units. SAIC attributes the accelerating output to its mature smart-manufacturing system and supply-chain coordination, with the Jiangbei base continuing to ramp up capacity to support deliveries of the MG4 for both domestic and overseas orders.

On the product side, MG has pushed the MG4's 400-kilometre-class range below 70,000 yuan (about $9,900), and brought a 530 km long-range version into the 90,000 yuan (about $12,700) segment. The 437 Comfort version offers a CLTC range of 437 km, while the 530 Smart version is rated at 530 km. A semi-solid-state battery version, called the Anxin edition, uses a hybrid solid-liquid cell and also claims a CLTC range of 530 km, bringing semi-solid-state technology to the 100,000 yuan (about $14,100) price bracket. The MG4 also uses cell-to-body (CTB) integration and SAIC's HeatMatrix integrated thermal management system. All figures are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.

CLTC range numbers are generally 15-20% more optimistic than the WLTP standard, so a 437 km CLTC rating would translate to roughly 350-370 km WLTP (est.), and 530 km CLTC to about 425-450 km WLTP (est.).

Sales momentum and quality controls

The MG4 went on sale in August 2025. PCauto reports that within 39 minutes and 37 seconds of orders opening, the car had received more than 10,000 firm orders, and within 15 days locked-in orders exceeded 26,000. First-month sales were close to 12,000 units, and the model has since sustained monthly sales above 10,000 units for several consecutive months.

At the Jiangbei plant, the production line includes 12 quality gates and 21 process inspection points, with error-proofing mechanisms covering the entire vehicle build process. MG says it will continue to invest in new-energy vehicles, using its product lineup and global sales channels to push international growth.

MG is a key export brand for SAIC, and the MG4 is sold in Europe and other overseas markets, where it competes with models such as the Volkswagen ID.3. The faster second-100,000 pace suggests the Nanjing base has overcome early ramp-up constraints and is now operating at a steadier cadence, which could help MG meet demand in both China and export markets.
