Ford refreshes Mustang Mach-E with bigger batteries, new Trail off-road pack

Ford's 2027 Mustang Mach-E drops the 73 kWh pack for larger batteries across the range, adds a Trail off-road package on Select eAWD models and makes BlueCruise 1.5 standard on GT and Rally trims.

Ford has unveiled the 2027 Mustang Mach-E with a series of updates that include larger battery packs across the lineup, a new Trail off-road package and changes to its driver-assistance suite. The refresh was reported by Chinese outlet 车质网 (Chezhiwang), which cited information from industry channels.

The headline addition is the Trail package, available on the Select eAWD version. It brings a carbon-black front bumper trim, 19-inch high-gloss dark carbon grey alloy wheels and Michelin CrossClimate 2 tyres. The suspension has been retuned, with the front axle raised by 10 mm and the rear by 15 mm, and the car uses the steering rack from the Rally model to improve behaviour on unpaved roads and in adverse weather.

Inside, the Trail version adds a Trail badge on the centre console and an optional interior protection kit that includes all-weather floor mats and a luggage compartment cover. The rest of the cabin layout is expected to carry over from the current model.

Bigger batteries, revised motors

Ford has dropped the 73 kWh pack from the 2027 range. Select and Premium models now come with an 88 kWh battery, while GT and Rally versions get a 91 kWh pack. The company has not yet published official range figures, but referencing the 2026 model, the Select and Premium all-wheel-drive versions could reach up to 483 km, rear-wheel-drive versions up to 515 km, and the GT and Rally models 451 km and 410 km respectively. These figures are based on the CLTC cycle used in China, which is roughly 15-20% more optimistic than the WLTP standard, so real-world WLTP estimates would be lower.

The front motor has also been redesigned, with Ford saying it maintains similar performance while lowering production costs. On the driver-assistance front, the GT and Rally trims come standard with BlueCruise 1.5, Ford's highway hands-free system, while other versions can option it.

By increasing battery capacity and adding the Trail package, Ford is broadening the Mach-E's appeal to buyers who want to take their electric SUV off the beaten path. The actual range performance and off-road capability will be closely watched once the car reaches customers. Chezhiwang says it will continue to follow the story as more details emerge.
