Dongfeng Motor's Fengshen brand launched the L8+ SUV on October 23, with a limited-time trade-in price of 129,900 to 159,900 yuan (about $18,300 to $22,500). The model is the first to feature the Tianyuan Zhijia T800 driver-assistance system and claims the world's highest 4-speed Mach hybrid transmission, according to NetEase Auto.
700 TOPS compute and Momenta R7
The L8+ is powered by Nvidia's Thor-U chip with 700 TOPS of computing power, making it the only SUV under 150,000 yuan (about $21,100) with such capability, Dongfeng says. That is 3.5 times the mainstream compute in its class, allowing for future software updates. The Tianyuan Zhijia T800 system integrates Momenta's R7 world model, which the company says rivals Huawei's Qiankun ADS Max. The L8+ is among the first production vehicles to ship with Momenta R7 fully embedded, requiring no over-the-air updates.
The high compute also enables cross-domain integration of ADAS, chassis, powertrain, and cabin systems, resulting in smoother acceleration and more precise steering, the company said. The L8+ supports point-to-point autonomous driving, including self-parking in lots, remote parking, and memory parking across up to seven floors and 3 kilometers, even in unmarked spaces. It also offers navigation-on-autopilot (NOA) without high-definition maps, covering highways, cities, and rural roads.
Hybrid powertrain and comfort features
The L8+ uses Dongfeng's 4-speed Mach hybrid system with a thermal efficiency of 45.18%. A 30.3 kWh battery provides a CLTC electric range of 220 km (about 137 miles, WLTP est. 176-187 km) and a combined CLTC range of over 1,500 km (about 932 miles, WLTP est. 1,200-1,275 km). CLTC figures are typically 15-20% more optimistic than WLTP.
Comfort features include a "cloud-soft" sofa, rear ceiling-mounted entertainment screen, rear refrigerator, aviation tray tables, and a 19-speaker WANOS panoramic sound system. The cabin is certified as "zero formaldehyde" by the China Automotive Technology and Research Center. Safety features include a 1200 MPa armored battery pack and a warranty covering spontaneous combustion for all owners regardless of mileage.
