Dongfeng Fengshen L8+ launches from 129,900 yuan with 700 TOPS ADAS compute

Dongfeng's Fengshen L8+ plug-in hybrid SUV launches in China from 129,900 yuan, featuring a 700 TOPS Nvidia Thor-U chip and Momenta R7 world model for advanced driver assistance, plus 220 km CLTC electric range.

Dongfeng's Fengshen brand has launched the L8+ plug-in hybrid SUV in China, with a limited-time trade-in price starting at 129,900 yuan (about $18,300). The model is positioned as a family-oriented vehicle with a strong focus on advanced driver assistance and comfort, according to Chinese outlet 电动邦 (EV Bang).

High-compute ADAS and world model

The L8+ is the first production vehicle to feature the Tianyuan Zhijia T800 system, which combines an Nvidia Thor-U chip with 700 TOPS of computing power and the Momenta R7 world model. Dongfeng claims this compute level is 3.5 times that of mainstream rivals in the same segment, leaving headroom for future over-the-air updates.

The system supports parking-to-parking navigation, allowing the vehicle to take over from a starting parking spot, drive to a destination, and automatically park. It also includes remote parking, self-drawn parking lines, and cross-floor memory parking that can handle routes up to 3 km and seven floors. For highway and city driving, the L8+ offers map-free NOA (navigation on autopilot) that does not rely on high-definition maps, extending to some rural and off-road roads. However, the system still requires driver supervision and operates within its defined scope.

Beyond perception and decision-making, the L8+ integrates ADAS with the vehicle's powertrain and chassis to smooth acceleration, braking, and steering, aiming to reduce motion sickness that some users experience with driver assistance systems.

Powertrain and range

The L8+ is powered by a 4-speed Mach e-mixed system featuring a 1.5-liter turbocharged engine with a maximum thermal efficiency of 45.18%. It is paired with a 30.3 kWh battery pack, delivering a CLTC electric-only range of 220 km (about 137 miles; WLTP est. around 176-187 km) and a combined CLTC range exceeding 1,500 km (about 932 miles). The 4-speed hybrid structure is designed to optimize engine and electric motor coordination across different speeds and loads.

Safety is addressed with the Mach battery, which uses a 1200 MPa high-strength protection structure and has passed tests for no fire, no leakage, and no explosion. Dongfeng also offers a lifetime warranty against thermal runaway for the battery, covering all owners with no mileage limit, though specific terms apply.

The cabin includes what Dongfeng calls a "luxury car five-piece set": cloud-soft seats, a rear ceiling-mounted entertainment screen, a rear refrigerator, an aviation-style small table, and a 19-speaker WANOS panoramic sound system. Additional comfort features include a heated capacitive steering wheel, memory and ventilation for front seats, and heated seats front and rear. The interior has received a "zero formaldehyde" certification from CATARC.

The L8+ runs the Tianyuan OS 2.0 infotainment system, which integrates with the ADAS and comfort features to cover the entire journey from departure to arrival.

With its combination of high compute, long range, and family-oriented features, the Fengshen L8+ aims to stand out in the 150,000 yuan (about $21,100) family SUV segment. The trade-in price of 129,900 to 159,900 yuan (about $18,300 to $22,500) is a key selling point, but the vehicle's real-world performance in daily commuting and long trips will determine its competitiveness.
