Luxeed, the electric-vehicle brand co-developed by Chery and Huawei, held the first customer deliveries of its RX SUV at Shanghai International Circuit on Oct 25, according to PCauto. The event doubled as a track experience, with the brand's chairman and CEO Guo Rui and executive vice president Zhao Changjiang, both licensed racing drivers, handing over the keys before leading owners on parade laps.
Guo said the decision to deliver at a racetrack was deliberate: "Luxeed RX must not only look good and be smart, but also nail the fundamentals of driving dynamics, safety and quality." He added that the company wanted buyers to feel the RX's track-verified handling from day one.
The RX's performance credentials include a lap time of 1 minute 43.210 seconds at Zhejiang International Circuit, set by racing driver Luo Kailuo, which the brand claims is the fastest lap for a Chinese-brand production SUV at that venue. The chassis package features virtual-kingpin all-aluminium double-wishbone front suspension, a five-link rear axle, dual-chamber air springs, dual-valve continuously variable dampers and six-piston fixed front calipers - hardware comparable to six-figure performance cars. Tobias Moers, former chairman of Mercedes-AMG and former CEO of Aston Martin, led the dynamic tuning team, while Huawei's Tuling platform coordinates powertrain, steering, braking and suspension.
Buyers choose L3-ready architecture
PCauto reported that more than 85% of first-batch RX buyers selected the version with the L3-capable autonomous-driving architecture, a sign that early customers value the advanced safety framework and long-term upgrade potential. The RX is offered in two Max trims, bringing what Luxeed describes as million-yuan-class chassis hardware, flagship safety and leading technology into the 250,000-yuan (about $35,200) segment - a Chinese guide price before taxes and incentives.
Chery chairman Yin Tongyue said the company has invested more than 20 billion yuan (about $2.8 billion) in Luxeed and assembled a 5,000-strong R&D team holding over 30,000 patents. The Luxeed super factory is the first new-energy passenger-vehicle plant in China to receive a national Level 4 smart-manufacturing maturity certification, using end-to-end AI and more than 10,000 inspection checkpoints to ensure delivery quality.
Luxeed's lineup now spans sedans, SUVs and MPVs with the S7, R7, V9 and RX. The V9 has led China's MPV sales segment above 400,000 yuan (about $56,300) for four consecutive months, according to the company. With the RX entering customer hands, Luxeed is broadening its product range and buyer base, aiming to deliver what it calls a more reassuring ownership experience.
