Changan has launched the Hunter K70, a pickup it bills as the world's first range-extender off-road model, with prices starting at 192,900 yuan (about $27,200) in China, according to NetEase Auto. The vehicle is available in two four-wheel-drive trims with large batteries - the Leading and Flagship versions priced at 192,900 yuan and 207,900 yuan ($29,300) respectively. These are Chinese guide prices before taxes and incentives.
Range-extender powertrain and off-road credentials
The Hunter K70 uses an EREV (range-extender) setup, combining a 43.47 kWh battery from CATL with a 2.0-liter turbocharged "Blue Whale" generator. The system delivers a combined 260 kW (about 349 hp) from dual electric motors and 559 Nm of torque. Changan claims an NEDC pure-electric range of 150 km and a combined range of 897 km, which it says covers two days of off-road driving without refueling. The company also says the vehicle can store up to 239 kWh of energy when fully charged and fueled, enough to power support equipment for about six nights.
Off-road hardware includes a 38-degree approach angle, 28-degree departure angle, 245 mm ground clearance, and 650 mm wading depth, fitted with LT285/70 R17 all-terrain tires. The pickup features a two-speed electric drive axle that triples torque at low speed in four-wheel-drive mode, plus a locking differential and a 2.5-tonne towing capacity. Ten driving modes cover sand, snow, mud, and water crossings, with an off-road assist display showing altitude, coordinates, body angle, and differential lock status.
The cargo box measures 1600 by 1595 by 500 mm with 1,276 liters of volume, and Changan highlights a multi-function tailgate with a folding step for easier loading. The standard battery pack carries five layers of protection, including a cage-style crash structure and IP68 sealing, according to the company. Safety equipment includes six airbags and automatic door unlocking and fuel cutoff in a collision.
RV version and launch incentives
Changan also introduced the Hunter K70 Feizhu Edition, an off-road camper version priced at 249,800 yuan (about $35,200). It features an aluminum-alloy camper shell with a 2-meter by 1.7-meter pull-out bed and a folding bed, sleeping three to four people, plus a 70-liter fresh water tank and shower kit. Buyers of the camper version receive a 1,000-yuan deposit that counts as 5,000 yuan toward the purchase, along with a 5,000-yuan travel package.
Launch incentives for the pickup include an 8,000-yuan cash discount, a 10,000-yuan trade-in subsidy, lifetime warranty on the battery, electric motors, and range-extender system, and a free 7 kW home charger. Prices in the Chinese market are before taxes and incentives.
