BAIC signs strategic deal with Lianyungang to boost EV exports and green growth

BAIC Group and the Lianyungang city government have signed a strategic cooperation agreement focused on auto exports, international market expansion, and green low-carbon development, leveraging the port city's logistics advantages.

BAIC Group, one of China's largest state-owned automakers, has signed a strategic cooperation agreement with the government of Lianyungang, a port city in Jiangsu Province, to deepen collaboration on automotive exports, international market expansion, and green low-carbon development, according to Gasgoo.

The agreement, signed on October 26, outlines cooperation across three main areas: automotive industry collaboration, international market expansion, and green low-carbon development. The partners will also work together on off-road tourism, technology innovation, and talent development. BAIC will contribute its strengths in vehicle R&D, manufacturing, and sales channels, while Lianyungang brings its port logistics, open-platform advantages, and industrial supporting facilities.

Port city's strategic role

Lianyungang serves as the eastern starting point of the New Eurasian Land Bridge, a key trade corridor linking China with Central Asia and Europe. The city's location and transport infrastructure make it a natural hub for vehicle exports, which is central to the cooperation. The deal is seen as part of China's Belt and Road Initiative, aiming to strengthen regional industrial coordination.

BAIC's subsidiaries have previously worked with Lianyungang-based companies on vehicle export business and product applications, laying the groundwork for this expanded partnership. The agreement follows a principle of government guidance and market operation, with both sides expected to steadily implement specific projects.

Implications for China's EV push

The partnership comes as Chinese automakers accelerate overseas expansion, particularly for battery-electric vehicles (BEVs). Lianyungang's port facilities could streamline the export of BAIC's electric models to markets across Asia and Europe, supporting the company's international growth strategy.

Industry analysts cited by Gasgoo suggest the agreement could inject new momentum into BAIC's high-quality development and Lianyungang's local economy as cooperation projects materialize. However, specific investment figures or export targets were not disclosed in the announcement.
