Audi China consolidates four-ring business under FAW Audi, ends dual-track sales

Audi China, FAW Audi and SAIC Audi have announced a strategic reshuffle: all four-ring Audi brand operations move to FAW Audi, while SAIC Audi focuses solely on the new AUDI letter-brand EVs. The move ends years of parallel sales and clarifies brand boundaries.

Audi's long-running dual-track strategy in China is being simplified. In a joint announcement, Audi China, FAW Audi and SAIC Audi said all business related to the four-ring Audi brand will now be operated by FAW Audi, ending the parallel sales of the same badge through two joint ventures, according to PCauto.

Clear division of responsibilities

Under the new structure, FAW Audi takes full charge of the four-ring brand, running both combustion and electrified model lines. It will continue updating core petrol models such as the A6L and A5L, while also launching PPE-platform battery-electric vehicles (BEVs) including the A6L e-tron and Q6L e-tron, aiming to hold on to the traditional luxury customer base.

SAIC Audi, meanwhile, will no longer develop new four-ring models. Its focus shifts entirely to the AUDI letter-brand, a separate marque positioned for high-end EVs. The Shanghai-based innovation centre will develop smart electric products tailored to the domestic market.

Transition arrangements and rationale

The companies also outlined a transition period: until the end of 2027, SAIC Audi may continue selling its existing inventory of four-ring models. After-sales service and dealer networks remain unchanged, and current owners' rights are unaffected by the transfer, the statement said.

The consolidation is intended to reduce internal competition and clarify brand boundaries. By putting the four-ring marque solely under FAW Audi, the classic Audi luxury image stays consistent, while SAIC Audi operates as an independent electric innovation line targeting consumers who want cutting-edge intelligent features. The two routes will develop in parallel without overlap.
